Improve Feeding Accuracy | Control Material Flow | Increase Process Reliability
We help identify and implement the right Acrison dry solids metering solution for powders, granules, flakes, pellets, ingredients, additives, and dry chemicals. From volumetric feeders and weigh feeders to bin dischargers, continuous blenders, bulk bag unloaders, dust collectors, and control systems, Acrison equipment helps manufacturers improve feeding accuracy, material handling reliability, and process control.
Get a Dry Solids Metering RecommendationModel 407X Loss-in-Weight · Control ingredient mass flow using loss-in-weight measurement.
Does your process need a controlled mass rate as material conditions vary?
The Acrison Model 407X mounts a selected metering mechanism and its supply hopper on an open-platform weighing system. As material discharges, the controller calculates the weight lost over time and adjusts the metering drive against the selected feed rate. The design supports continuous or batch dry-solids duties.
Typical application
Control an additive or ingredient feed in kg/h, or deliver a defined batch quantity.
Also known as: Loss-in-weight feeders, weight-loss weigh feeders, LIW feeders, gravimetric dosing systems.
Weight feedback supports control of mass flow rather than relying only on a volume setting.
Choose the material-handling section for flowability, cohesion, particle size, and the required rate.
Review the controller, refill system, and downstream process as part of the complete feed cycle.
The hopper and selected metering mechanism sit on the 407X weighing platform.
The weighing system sends weight data to the controller as product discharges.
The controller adjusts the metering drive. Hopper replenishment and the refill-control strategy are reviewed for the duty.
Powders, granules, or pellets with the correct mechanism. Review the required ingredient ratio, cleaning, and process variation.
Additives, concentrates, and other dry ingredients. Match hopper behaviour and the metering mechanism to the material.
Suitable dry chemical or mineral products. Describe cohesion, aeration, abrasion, dust, temperature, and compatibility.
Metering-mechanism application video
Acrison demonstrates the Model 170-1 metering mechanism, the mechanism type shown on the 407X-170-1 product configuration. This clip shows material handling and discharge; it does not demonstrate a complete 407X weighing loop or establish loss-in-weight accuracy.

Include the lowest, normal, and highest mass rate, the density range, and the required averaging period for accuracy. Review refill transitions and external forces on the weighed assembly as carefully as steady operation. A mass-flow objective still requires a metering mechanism that handles the material reliably.

Manufacturer application history
Acrison’s Nelstrop case history describes two Model 405-105 loss-in-weight feeders replenished by Model 105 volumetric feeders. Additive delivery followed a signal from the flour-weighing system. The project illustrates how metering, refill, and line-rate control work together. It is a loss-in-weight application example using Model 405 equipment, not a 407X installation.
Nelstrop flour-additive case history PDF - Model 405 systemSend a material sample description, minimum and maximum feed rates, bulk-density range, particle sizes, moisture, and a process sketch. Include the required accuracy, measurement interval, upstream refill method, cleaning needs, and available space.
Review My Feeding RequirementsRefilling adds weight while the feeder is discharging, so the controller needs a refill strategy to maintain delivery through that part of the cycle. Review refill frequency, delivery speed, hopper capacity, and the process acceptance criteria together. Bulletin 897 explains the need for periodic refill.
Acrison offers witnessed equipment demonstrations and material testing. Agree on the feed-rate range, sample collection method, test duration, and acceptance criteria so the results reflect the intended process.
Consider the hopper, metering mechanism, weighing method where applicable, refill supply, controls, discharge connection, dust management, and access for cleaning. Identify which equipment and interfaces need to be included in the quotation.
Confirm capacity, accuracy test conditions, materials, drive, controls, and construction for your actual application. Product-family ranges and example installations are not a guarantee for every material or feeder size.
Meter by volume
Meter a controlled volume of free-flowing granules or pellets.
Example: Meter plastic masterbatch pellets or another suitable free-flowing ingredient into a process.
Also known as: Volumetric screw feeders, single-auger feeders, dry ingredient dosers.
Control by loss of weight
Control ingredient mass flow using loss-in-weight measurement.
Example: Control an additive or ingredient feed in kg/h, or deliver a defined batch quantity.
Also known as: Loss-in-weight feeders, weight-loss weigh feeders, LIW feeders, gravimetric dosing systems.
Weigh a continuous belt stream
Control a continuous dry-solids stream with a weighed belt and integral prefeeder.
Example: Meter a continuous ingredient stream where a suitable prefeeder can deliver the material consistently onto the belt.
Also known as: Weigh belt feeders, belt weigh feeders, gravimetric belt feeders, continuous weigh feeders.
