The demand for rechargeable batteries has surged in our daily lives, fueling the operation of our smartphones, laptops, and electric vehicles. With the global battery industry experiencing rapid growth and technological advancements, the prominence of lithium-ion batteries (LIBs) is expected to persist for the foreseeable future.
The Role of Battery Powder in Creating Rechargeable Batteries
Battery powders serve as the lifeblood of rechargeable batteries, facilitating the essential electrochemical reactions needed for storing and releasing electrical charges.
In the construction of most lithium-ion batteries, a metal oxide positive electrode (cathode) is layered onto an aluminum current collector, while a negative electrode (anode) is comprised of carbon/graphite on a copper current collector. These components are complemented by a separator and an electrolyte solution containing dissolved lithium salt in an organic solvent.
The process of creating electrodes involves blending active materials, polymer binders, and conductive additives with solvents to form a slurry. This slurry is then applied to a current collector foil, dried to remove the solvent, and converted into a porous electrode coating.
Why Global Battery Manufacturers Choose BFM® fitting Flexible Connectors
The BFM® fitting system is a unique product that comprises two stainless steel spigot adaptors that, once installed onto your pipework, enable the fast, accurate and secure snap-fit installation of the BFM® connector in seconds - without the need for clamps or other fasteners.
Unlike traditional clamped connectors, the BFM® fitting system seals from the inside of the pipe so they’re 100% dustproof – perfect for super-fine powders like those found in the battery industry. Even under positive pressure, they seal tighter so there is no product lost from the process, and the general factory environment is much cleaner and safer.
BFM's Matthew Bailey has written an informative article illustrating the range of products that are suitable for use in battery powder processing.
